Sleepy

We gave Sass some turkey.

I love this chair!

Merry Christmas to me!

Yummy!

"Come on Phil- drop a piece!"

We are tired of eating turkey. We ordered our very favorite pizza in the whole wide world- NYPD Queen's Deluxe. We don't weigh in 'til next Saturday so we justified the treat.

I'm Stuffed!

We had a great Thanksgiving day with Phil's mom and dad. I love those guys! We invited them to spend Thanksgiving at our house this year. I wanted to let Phil's parents know how much we love and appreciate them. Myrtle said she wrote in her journal last night that this was the first Thanksgiving since she became married that she did not have to prepare the meal.
We enjoyed their company. We spoke to our grandkids on the webcam. Mason was excited to see his great grandparents. Harper still isn't quite sure how we get inside the box on her computer.
Myrtle and I had fun making ourselves dancing elves on Office Depot JibJab website. We wish we could really dance like that to burn off the Turkey day calories! We emailed them to family and laughed a ton.
Well, there's lots of leftovers in the fridge. Come on over for a turkey sandwich or turkey hash or turkey soup or whatever. Oh yeah- we WON"T be going to Weight Watchers this Saturday!

Happy Birthday!

Even though she has declared she will have no more birthdays, I am still going to wish my mother a happy birthday.
She has lived in Milledgevile Georgia for HMM HMM years(her entire life). And I must add that it has been a good life. She is soft spoken and gentle. And yes, she was a mere baby when I was born. She is one of the kindest, most loving people that I know. I love her dearly and won't obey the directive to ignore this day.
So, happy birthday! Now, do something fun and enjoy yourself!

Less Stress

I taught Relief Society today. It was the perfect lesson for me- especially this time of year. The topic was simplifying your life. The lesson was taken from a talk by L. Tom Perry in General Conference in October. He spoke about Henry David Thoreau's two year stay at Walden Pond. Thoreau endeavored to become closer to nature and God and reflected on the four basic needs we all have: food, shelter, clothing, and fuel.
I am thankful that I am blessed abundantly with all four. It helps to have a wonderful, supportive, loving family as well.
When I consider all the blessings I have, it puts little irritations in perspective. Being appreciative and focusing on the good things in my life takes away stress.

I Have Another Pair Just Like These

One of my students asked me why my shoes were different. I looked down at my feet, and holy cow!- I accidently wore two different shoes to school this morning! I did some fast thinking and said, "One shoe is for the pilgrims and the other is for the indians." They thought it was pretty cool. Don't you love five year olds?

Friendship and Loaves

I have an amazing friend. Her name is Jennifer. She moved to SC from Utah last year. She is the example of whom I hope to become. Today she made whole wheat bread from scratch- and I really mean from scratch- with 67 kindergartners.
She was busy teaching/sharing/mixing/baking for 4 hours straight! She ground the wheat to make her own flour. She explained the need for each ingredient and the importance of following the directions and measurements on the recipe. She let each little child have a turn to knead the dough. I'm sure the little students in our kindergarten will look at bread with new respect- not just be the stuff that holds their peanut butter and jelly together!
Not only did she spend the time at school with our classes, but she made six loaves of bread before she came to work with us. She wanted the children to get to sample what they were making.
The children saw the ingredients work together to make a wonderful loaf of delicious smelling bread. I saw a friend who lovingly and gladly gives of herself and talents to benefit others. Jennifer's made of the ingredient that brings light to others-selfless love and goodness.
Tomorrow, 67 little pilgrims and indians will feast together on delicious whole wheat bread that was made with love. They will be singing Thanksgiving songs and I will be giving thanks for my sweet friend.

Voting

Phil and I met at our polling place to vote. Of course our prescient had the loooongest line. It was fun though. We just stood together in line and talked. I said that it would be nice to have a prize at the end of the line- like a piece of pie or something. Which led to a discussion about my favorites kinds of pies. I think I love every kind of pie there is. Anyway, all that pie talk has made me really hungry. I think we'll go get dinner and then maybe go to Whole Foods to get a yummy pie. By the way- my very favorite is CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE. Just in case you wanted to know.
Oh- and we did vote!

The Pumpkin Patch

I'm really sad. I took my class to the pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins. We've been learning about plants and how they grow. I told my students we would be able to see the vines and leaves and pick our pumpkins right off the vine.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!The pumpkins are shipped in from N.Carolina. There are NO VINES, NO LEAVES- just mounds of dirt with pumpkins all lined up neatly in rows. Some of the pumpkins even had produce stickers on them : (
