I have an amazing friend. Her name is Jennifer. She moved to SC from Utah last year. She is the example of whom I hope to become. Today she made whole wheat bread from scratch- and I really mean from scratch- with 67 kindergartners.
She was busy teaching/sharing/mixing/baking for 4 hours straight! She ground the wheat to make her own flour. She explained the need for each ingredient and the importance of following the directions and measurements on the recipe. She let each little child have a turn to knead the dough. I'm sure the little students in our kindergarten will look at bread with new respect- not just be the stuff that holds their peanut butter and jelly together!
Not only did she spend the time at school with our classes, but she made six loaves of bread before she came to work with us. She wanted the children to get to sample what they were making.
The children saw the ingredients work together to make a wonderful loaf of delicious smelling bread. I saw a friend who lovingly and gladly gives of herself and talents to benefit others. Jennifer's made of the ingredient that brings light to others-selfless love and goodness.
Tomorrow, 67 little pilgrims and indians will feast together on delicious whole wheat bread that was made with love. They will be singing Thanksgiving songs and I will be giving thanks for my sweet friend.
